МЬЯНМА (БИРМА) HIGHLIGHTS of YANGON & SURROUNDINGS 
4 Days / 3 Nights

     

Day 1: Arrive in Yangon
Arrive in Yangon and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon visit the world famous golden Shwedagon Pagoda, a breathtaking and colourful sight visited by Buddhists from all over Myanmar. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 2: Yangon 
A full day tour to discover the colourful capital of Myanmar with a close look at the local life of this historical city. By car and partly on foot this tour takes you to the National Museum, the Sule pagoda in the centre of the city. Walk around the Mahabandoola Park to see the colonial courthouse and the city hall. From there a rickshaw tour around the colonial area with the historical buildings will start, breaking at a local teashop to enjoy Burmese tea and the typical atmosphere. Continue by rickshaw along the famous Strand Road and visit the bustling Yangon harbour. In the afternoon, visit Kaba Aye Pagoda dedicated to world peace and the Maha Pasuna Cave where the sixth Buddhist synod took place in 1952. Visit nearby a traditional jewellery and gemstone workshop to observe the cutting and polishing of precious gemstones including the famous ‘pigeon-blood rubies’. Overnight in Yangon. (B)

Day 3: Yangon-Twante-Yangon 
After breakfast, transfer to the jetty and board a small private chartered boat for the one hour and forty-five minute journey on the Yangon River to Twante, offering a glimpse of life in the countryside outside the capital. On arrival in Twante, a small village of bamboo huts known for its traditional pottery, continue by horse and carriage for a morning sightseeing tour of Twante including the local market and family-run ceramics making workshops. Return to Yangon by boat enjoying the scenery along the river where boats are being loaded with local goods, women are washing clothes and children are playing by the riverside. Back in Yangon the tour continues in the afternoon with some free time for shopping at the huge Bogyoke Market formerly Scott’s market, offering a wide selection of local handicrafts. Finish the day with a walk in colourful Chinatown and visit Yangon’s oldest Chinese temple, the Kheng Hock Keong. Overnight in Yangon. (B)

Day 4: Yangon-Bago-Yangon 
After breakfast at the hotel, leave Yangon and enjoy a scenic journey by road to Bago, 80km to the northwest of Yangon. Bago is an ancient capital of a former Mon Kingdom dating back to the 6th century. Sightseeing in Bago includes the beautiful 55-metre long reclining Buddha, Shwethalyaung, and the Mon style Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated in Myanmar. Its spire stands 114m high and is taller even than the Shwedagon Pagoda. Also visit the well-restored former palace Kambozathadi. End the tour of Bago with a walk around the colourful Bago Market. On the way back to Yangon, visit the Allied War Cemetery near Htaukkyan, the final resting place for over 27,000 allied soldiers, and a local woven bamboo factory. Transfer to the airport. (B)
